Recruitment Tips

Recruitment can be a very overwhelming process so it is okay if you are nervous. Keep in mind that the chapter members may be just as nervous to meet you guys. I highly suggest that you review these important tips before going through Recruitment. There are also important questions that you should consider asking during this time.

DO: Look Presentable

Most likely, this will be the first time that you are formally meeting these women. Be mindful of what you wear to each round so that you leave a good impression for the chapter. If you are unsure of what would be okay to wear, feel free to contact an E-Board member or send a message in the chat in the lower right-hand corner. Remember to look at the packet that you received at the informational to reference preferred outfits for the week.

DON'T: Be Late

Just as we said before, you want to leave a good impression on these women. Unless a certain circumstance arises, you should never be late for any recruitment rounds. If you plan to miss a day of Recruitment, or you are unable to make a day last minute, be sure to stay in close contact with your Rho Gamma.

DO: Keep an Open Mind

Greek Life is about finding your home.  Sometimes you walk into a room and you immediately feel that true feeling of home, sometimes you don't. Whether you have this feeling or not, it is highly important that you keep an open mind during this process so that you find your true home. If you are stuck, consider creating a pro's and con's list and look at your options. Do not worry if you do not find your home the first time around, there is always Spring Recruitment!

DON'T: Discuss any Inappropriate Topics

Greek Life values the rules of West Liberty's campus and we abide by the rule that this is a dry campus. Therefore, mentioning any activities regarding drugs or alcohol is prohibited. In addition to this, it is unacceptable to partake in such activities during Formal Recruitment and it is important that these rules are respected and followed.

Questions to consider asking chapter members during recruitment:

  • How much of a time commitment is Greek Life?

  • What do enjoy most about being in Greek Life? What do you enjoy most about your organization?

  • What does the sorority do to support your philanthropy?

  • What are the dues for the sorority and what do they go towards?

  • How do you balance school work and Greek Life?

  • Why did you join a sorority?

  • How have you changed since you have joined Greek Life?

  • What makes your sorority unique?

  • What is your stance on hazing?
